Project Overview

Marble Arch Place is a leading mixed-use development that will result in a new landmark building for London, and a striking gateway to Mayfair and the West End completed in 2020. The existing 1960’s building was replaced by a new residential, office and retail scheme, with views across the finest of the Royal Parks. Conceived in partnership with the freeholder, The Portman Estate, renowned architect Rafael Vinoly, and interior designers, Millier London, the development delivers the highest quality of specification for residential and commercial buildings in London. The public realm increases accessibility to Portman Village and offer dynamic retail frontages with cafes, restaurants, shops and an entrance to a new Odeon cinema.

The development consists of an 18 storey residential tower, with 54 apartments and a 7 storey commercial building providing a total of over 95,000 sq.ft. of high-quality offices. The apartments and offices benefit from wonderful views of Hyde Park and across the City, with several floors featuring large terraces. British artist Lee Simmons has designed a stunning public art installation, which takes inspiration from nearby Hyde Park.

Due to the space constraints of this project, detailed 3D BIM Modelling of the plant room allowed offsite construction and easy installation via skids.

Scope of Works

EDC was commissioned to carry out the MEP and BIM Modelling for this development. Clever design thinking from our Cork office utilised our BIM Level 2 experience and enabled EDC to come up with a modular off-site solution for the Marble Arch Plant Room.

It enabled EDC to come up with a modular off-site solution for the Marble Arch Plant Room, given the space restrictions of building in central London. This modular approach to design and ability of EDC to provide intricate and detailed 3D design models for the fabrication of this plant room gave the client the following benefits:

Shorter project and start-up time as the pumps were fabricated in parallel to the civil construction and as they are fully assembled and tested a shorter on-site start-up time.

The client benefitted from reduced costs, shorter project timeline, and more overall control of the process.

Improved Health and safety was a definite benefit of the design process. With key planning and risk assessment able to be carried before the arrival of the skids for installation. Less personnel required on-site, reduced the risk of any on-site injuries.
