MainOne, Data Center, Lagos

Lagos

Project Overview:

This project commenced in 2012 and faced a number of unique challenges, amongst others the sites proximity to the coast, supply chain issues and the high water table. We worked closely with project stakeholders to manage all the external factors to deliver a state of the art Data Centre.

This Uptime Institute Tier 3 data centre was designed on an N+1, 1600w/sqm cooling capacity specification. This state of the art telecom data centre was completed for Main One Cable Company in 2015 and was strictly built according to the TIA 942 Standards. The data centre conforms to the minimum ‘Tier 3’ classification standard as well. The building consists of 600 server racks and is supported by UPS’s and 6 standby generators. This in turn is supported by diesel tanks that allow for a 84 hour standby time. The data centre also has a 24/7 video NOC control room that allows for continuous data and support.

EDC Scope of Works:

EDC provided the mechanical and electrical services for this project in addition to providing input into the structural scheme in conjunction with a structural engineering partner. EDC came up with an initial layout based on a single build and also a layout with stage or modular build. Building layout to be Data hall one side with single-sided DX cooling and power generation and UPS on the other.
