Project Overview

The Taylors Lane site in Dublin 8, once a mill race fed by the River Poddle, was acquired by Guinness and generously gifted to the community as a 3,000m² enterprise hub. An opportunity to modernise and expand the building, including the addition of a rooftop extension, was won via a competitive design process.

The Guinness Enterprise Centre (GEC), is a 3-storey not-for-profit working space located in the Liberties area of Dublin and currently holds 500 people working for 150 different startups and small business. The new expansion will see the size almost double with the expanded development becoming home to 160 start-ups with 750 employees.

The importance of the GEC, not just to the locality in Dublin 8, but nationally and globally – was recognised with the naming of the GEC as the Number 1 Business Incubator in the World (Collaborating with Universities) at the World Incubation Summit in Toronto in Feb 2018.

Scope of Works

The works comprise of the refurbishment of the existing floors, new café and restaurant facilities, new reception area and a two-storey extension to the building all while the building is fully live and operating as normal. EDC provided the MEP and Energy services for this project.
