Boston Scientific

Cork

Project Overview:

EDC have successfully delivered Boston Scientific Administration Building. Located at the Business & Technology Park on Model Farm Road, Cork, the new administration building spans over 3,000m2. The three-storey building has been seamlessly integrated with existing structures on the site and is now the home to a range of modern functional spaces, including a canteen, office space for 88 staff, meeting rooms, support areas and break-out spaces. Sustainability took centre stage in this project, and we are delighted the building has achieved LEED GOLD certification. This accomplishment further underlines our commitment to sustainable practices and innovation.

The building was constructed with a reinforced concrete frame, exposed board marked concrete internally, and a fully glazed external façade. It is founded on piles which were carefully installed to avoid damage to existing underground services to the production building, and mechanical plant equipment and solar PV panels are located on the roof. The project was completed within the curtilage of a Protected Structure, honouring the legacy of the ‘Former Munster Institute’ (PS637).

EDC Scope of Works:

EDC were commissioned by Butler Commoranesi Architects on behalf of Boston Scientific Cork to provide MEP design services for their upgrade of the existing admin block on site. The project consisted of a complete upgrade of the interior of the new building including new M&E services. This included a new AHU and VAV air supply system for provision of fresh air and temperature control.

Each office space was provided with a dedicated VAV unit and associated temperature controller for environmental control of each space. The unit was supplied with chilled water and low temperature hot water from the existing campus chiller and boiler systems. A completely new LV distribution system was provided from an existing power source on site. LED lighting with DALI control throughout provided energy efficiency in line with the client’s requirements.
